Once things calmed down after winning NYC Midnight’s 2022 100-Word Microfiction Challenge, I figured I’d try submitting my entries for publication out in the world. Surely, if they were good enough to win a prominent international writing competition, they’d be good enough for a submissions editor at a literary magazine of note to take a flyer on them?
As it happens, two of my three entries have now found homes in upcoming publications. As mentioned in previous reports, the final round winner, “A Recipe For You In The New World,” will be part of Apex Magazine’s forthcoming anthology Strange Libations. While it will also be available to read at NYC Midnight’s website later in the year, Strange Libations will be your first opportunity to do so. You may order it as part of a bundle for Apex Magazine’s current Kickstarter campaign, which I encourage you to do as it is a fine publication and our speculative fiction cornerstones need all the support they can get.
Additionally, my first round entry, “Two-Star Yelp Review of Mermaid Lagoon,” has found a home in Issue 27 of Fairfield Scribes, and you’ll be able to read it on their website when it publishes on March 15.
